Sabouna: comes from the Arabic word “Saboun” which simply means soap. Although naming our brand “Sabouna” might seem a bit uncreative but it was one of the best business decisions ever made. Yes, the name might sound simple but it is clear, to the point and sounded really cute for our Middle Eastern customers, the category we first started serving before getting introduced to our international raving fans and amazing clients.
About the company:
SABOUNA Shop ™ is a boutique creating gorgeous artisan cold processed soap, balms, deodorants, scrubs, masks and shampoos. SABOUNA originally launched in the breathtaking Mediterranean city of Alexandria in 2009.
What we believe in :
Less is more. Most of our products contains maximum five ingredients with a very few exceptions. Fillers have ZERO presence in our products, it is either a nourishing, essential and active ingredient or it is excluded.
Ethical business. Using safe, sustainable, ethically produced & sources, and organic (whenever available) is the core of having an ethical business. Sourcing our raw materials from local small businesses is top priority, however we do buy some raw materials from overseas due to being unavailable locally or present but with poor quality.
You are already beautiful & worthy. SABOUNA is not here to “Make you beautiful”, SABOUNA is here to help you care for the blessing GOD gave you.
Small batches & limited editions. All products are provided in small batches which gives our mini-team the change to pay extra attention to each batch and provide you with high quality end product.
Handmade. All soaps and natural bath and body products are handmade from scratch. We NEVER use or accept pre-manufactured “bases” or synthetic dyes and our recipes have been formulated with lots of skin loving oils, purest essential oils, herbs, natural clays and butters.
Against cruelty and animal testing. We at Sabouna Shop will NEVER permit or think it is okay to test any of our products or other companies’ products on animal.
Education. Knowledge empowers human beings. You have the right to know what goes into each of Sabouna’s products and have the right to know why we chose to eliminate certain ingredients normally available in mainstream personal care & grooming products.
Self-preserved products. Till this date all of Sabouna’s products are self-preserved and no preservatives are added. With the expansion of the brand carefully selected natural and 100% safe preservatives might be introduced. We will ALWAYS state them in the list of ingredients and will inform anyone who expresses their interest in buying a product containing natural preservatives.
Simple. Minimalism.
a) Caring for your skin and hair shouldn’t be a complicated, time consuming or SUPER expensive process.
b) The less the better. We were brainwashed by mainstream media that we NEED ZILLIONS of beauty products just to look okay, when the truth is : Our grandmothers! Look at your grandmother’s old photos, they did not have anti-frizz serums but had beautiful hair, they never used anti-ageing creams and they still have glowing faces with beautiful expression lines. They heavily relayed on natural remedies and simple ingredients. So less is more.
Our ingredients:
- Islamic medicine, holistic medicine & middle eastern inspired ingredients.
- All plant extracts and essential oils must be certified organic whenever possible.
- All plant oils must be cold pressed, not heat distilled.
- All ingredients must be bio-degradable as possible
What you will NEVER find in any of SABOUNA SHOP’s products:
- No sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), ammonium lauryl sulfate( aka ammonium dodecyl sulfate).
- Parabens – Methylparaben, Propylparaben and Butyl Paraben.
- No GMOs (Genetically Modified Organism) ingredients
- No petro-chemicals or silicon-derivatives.
- No artificial colors or fillers
- No fragrance. We only use the purest form of essential oils for their therapeutic effect and scent.
- No alcohol.
- No aluminum zirconium or aluminum chlorohydrate. Both are heavily present in commercial antiperspirants and are related to breast cancer and Alzheimer.
